Treatment Summary

Hyaluronic acid filler may soften nasolabial folds. Treatment is not always best directed at the fold itself; in some patients, restoring mid-face support may produce a more balanced result. Where direct treatment is appropriate, filler is placed conservatively to preserve natural movement and expression.

Key Benefits

Treating the Cause

Assessment considers mid-face volume, tissue support and skin quality before deciding whether direct fold treatment is appropriate.

Preserved Movement

Treatment is planned conservatively to soften the fold while respecting natural facial movement and expression.

Individual Planning

Cheek support, direct fold treatment, another approach or no treatment may be recommended according to anatomy.

Treating the Cause, Not Just the Line

The nasolabial fold is a natural anatomical transition between the cheek and upper lip. With age, changes in mid-face volume, tissue support and skin quality can make this fold more pronounced.

Rather than automatically filling the fold itself, we first assess the surrounding anatomy and the underlying cause. For some patients, restoring mid-face support with cheek filler can soften the appearance of the fold while preserving natural facial movement and expression.

Where direct treatment is appropriate, it is approached conservatively and as part of wider facial balance — never simply to erase a natural feature.

When Direct Fold Treatment Is Appropriate

Direct nasolabial filler may be appropriate when a small residual line remains or when anatomy supports direct treatment. Where indicated, a softer HA filler is placed conservatively in small volumes and at an appropriate depth. The aim is to soften the fold, not eliminate a normal anatomical feature entirely.

Treatment Limitations

Nasolabial filler is not a solution for significant skin laxity or substantial structural changes. It cannot eliminate every line, particularly those that appear naturally with facial movement and smiling. Where reduced structural support is the underlying concern, this may be addressed before considering the fold itself.

Your Treatment at Aesthetic Clinique

Your appointment includes assessment, treatment planning, marking, preparation and treatment. Where mid-face support is indicated, filler is placed strategically within the cheek. Where direct fold treatment is appropriate, a suitable technique is selected for your anatomy. Mild swelling and bruising can occur following treatment. Further treatment is considered only after the result has settled and reassessment confirms it is appropriate.

Longevity & Follow up

Duration varies between individuals and products. Cheek-based and direct fold treatments may settle and persist differently. Maintenance is approached conservatively, with treatment repeated only when reassessment confirms it is appropriate.

What to Expect

  1. 1

    Assessment and Treatment Planning

We assess the face at rest and in movement, consider mid-face support and decide whether cheek treatment, direct fold treatment, another option or no treatment is most appropriate.

Suitability

Aesthetic care is highly individual. The points below are general guidance — final suitability for nasolabial fold assessment and treatment is always confirmed in your consultation.

Often suitable for

  • Patients concerned by prominent nasolabial folds where assessment identifies reduced support or a suitable residual fold.

May not be suitable if

  • Significant skin laxity, active infection, relevant contraindications or a goal of completely erasing a natural fold may make filler unsuitable.

Aftercare

Caring for your results

A few simple steps in the first 24–48 hours help your results settle as expected.

  • Redness, bruising and swelling may occur. Severe pain, skin colour changes or vision symptoms require urgent medical assessment.
  • Injection treatments may cause redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising. Less common complications depend on the product and site; your clinician will discuss them during consent. Seek urgent assessment for severe or increasing pain, skin colour change or any visual disturbance after filler.

Treatment Areas

  • Nasolabial Folds
  • Mid Cheek
  • Pyriform Fossa

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do nasolabial filler results last?

Longevity varies with the treatment area, product, anatomy and facial movement. Maintenance is discussed after reassessment rather than set to a fixed schedule.

Will my smile look different?

Treatment is planned to preserve natural movement and expression. If further filler could compromise movement, we will advise against additional treatment.

Do I need cheek filler first?

Not necessarily. The appropriate approach depends on your anatomy and the underlying cause of the fold.
