Treatment Summary

The Nefertiti lift is a non-surgical neck and jawline treatment that uses small, precisely placed doses of prescription-only medicines along the platysma muscle and the depressor angles of the lower face. By relaxing the downward-pulling platysmal bands, the upward-pulling muscles around the jaw line are no longer opposed, and a subtle lift and definition of the jawline emerges over 2–4 weeks. Suited to mild-to-moderate cases of early jawline softening and visible neck banding — not a substitute for surgery in significant skin laxity. Named after Queen Nefertiti's iconic sculpted profile.

Also known as: Nefertiti lift · neck lift facial line treatment · jawline slimming · platysmal band treatment · non-surgical neck lift

Key Benefits

Subtle Jawline Definition

Releases the downward pull on the lower face for a softly lifted, more defined jawline.

Reduced Platysmal Banding

Softens the visible vertical neck cords that appear with age or muscle activity.

Non-Surgical, No Downtime

An in-clinic treatment with no incisions, no recovery period, and no surgical scarring.

Predictable, Reversible Outcome

Effects last 3–6 months and gradually fade — no permanent commitment.

What the Nefertiti lift is

The Nefertiti lift uses prescription-only medicines to address one specific anatomical fact: the platysma — the broad sheet-like muscle covering the front of the neck — pulls the corners of the lower face and jawline downward when active. The muscles of the lower face have to work against that downward pull to maintain definition. Over time, as the platysma becomes more dominant, the jawline softens and visible vertical neck bands appear when speaking or smiling.

Relaxing the platysma in carefully chosen places releases that downward pull. The lower face then sits slightly higher; the jawline emerges with more definition; and the visible neck bands quieten. The result is a subtler, more sculpted lower-face profile — named after the iconic sculpted profile of Queen Nefertiti.

This is a subtle treatment. It is the right tool for mild-to-moderate jawline softening and active platysmal banding. It is not the right tool for significant skin laxity, heavy jowling or deep submental fat — for which surgical, energy-based or filler approaches may be more appropriate.

How treatment is delivered

At Aesthetic Clinique in West Hampstead, we approach the Nefertiti lift with anatomical precision and conservative dosing:

  • The platysmal bands are mapped while you contract the muscle (a deliberate grimace), which makes the bands visible.
  • 4–6 superficial injection points per active band are placed along its length.
  • Additional small doses may be placed at the depressor anguli oris (DAO) and along the jawline border.
  • Total dose is conservative — we are aiming to release the downward pull, not weaken the neck.

Timeline and results

Effect begins at 5–7 days and reaches full development at 2–4 weeks — a slightly longer onset than upper-face cosmetic treatment because the muscles are larger. We see you for a complimentary review at 14 days. Duration is typically 3–6 months on a first treatment, with potential for slightly longer intervals once the muscle adapts to repeat treatment.

Who suits — and who doesn't

It suits adults in their 30s–50s with early jawline softening and active platysmal banding. It is less appropriate where the dominant problem is skin laxity (where surgical lift or significant skin tightening may be needed), heavy submental fat (where fat-dissolving or surgical approaches apply), or significant volume loss in the mid-face (where dermal filler or biostimulators play a role).

We will tell you honestly at consultation if the Nefertiti lift will under-deliver for your particular anatomy. Sometimes the right plan is a different treatment — or a combination, such as masseter slimming for jaw shape, the Nefertiti lift for jawline lift, and skin-quality work for neck texture.

Combinations

The Nefertiti lift combines well with masseter slimming (for square jaw or bruxism), chin filler (for profile balance), upper-face facial line treatment, and skin-quality treatments such as Profhilo and polynucleotides for the neck.

What to Expect

  1. 1

    Lower-face and neck assessment

We assess platysmal band activity, jawline definition, skin laxity and the position of the depressor anguli oris (DAO). The Nefertiti lift suits mild-to-moderate softening; significant skin laxity is identified honestly so expectations are calibrated.

  2. 2

Mapping along the jawline and bands

Injection points are marked along the visible platysmal bands (typically 4–6 points per band) and in the lower jawline / DAO region. Doses are conservative; the treatment is about subtle release, not heavy muscle weakening.

  3. 3

    Injection in one session

Both sides are treated in one appointment using very fine needles. Total injecting time is around 5–10 minutes. Most patients describe brief stinging at each point.

  4. 4

    Gradual emergence of effect

Effect begins at 5–7 days and reaches full development at 2–4 weeks. We see you for review at 14 days to assess balance and add small refinements where appropriate.

Suitability

Aesthetic care is highly individual. The points below are general guidance — final suitability for neck and jawline consultation is always confirmed in your consultation.

Often suitable for

  • Adults in their 30s–50s with early jawline softening and visible platysmal banding
  • Patients seeking subtle, non-surgical lower-face refinement
  • Patients with active platysmal bands that appear when speaking or grimacing
  • Patients combining with masseter slimming or chin filler for fuller lower-face balance
  • Patients who want to avoid or delay considering surgical options

May not be suitable if

  • Significant skin laxity that needs surgical lift, deep-thread or skin-tightening intervention
  • Heavy submental (under-chin) fat — needs fat-dissolving or other treatments
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Certain neuromuscular conditions
  • Patients expecting a dramatic surgical-style result — this is a refinement, not a replacement

Aftercare

Caring for your results

A few simple steps in the first 24–48 hours help your results settle as expected.

  • Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas and hot yoga for the rest of the day
  • Avoid neck massage, deep facials or platysma-targeted exercise for 2 weeks
  • Avoid lying face-down on the first night
  • Mild bruising at injection points is common and settles within a few days
  • Notify the clinic of any unexpected swallowing change, neck weakness or voice change

Treatment Areas

  • Jawline
  • Platysmal Bands
  • Neck

The Nefertiti lift is a well-described off-label use of prescription-only medicines type A, supported by published clinical literature describing improved jawline definition and reduced platysmal banding in suitable candidates. The mechanism — releasing the downward pull of the platysma to allow the lower face to sit slightly higher — is anatomically straightforward. We use only MHRA-licensed prescription-only medicines brands and dose conservatively given the proximity of swallowing musculature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Nefertiti lift a real lift?

It is a real but subtle lift. The platysma muscle pulls the lower face downward; relaxing it releases that pull, allowing the lower face to sit slightly higher and the jawline to look more defined. It is not equivalent to a surgical neck lift. For early softening, it is often genuinely transformative; for significant skin laxity, it is the wrong tool and we will say so.

How is it different from masseter slimming?

Different muscles, different goals. Masseter treatment slims a square jaw and treats bruxism. The Nefertiti lift relaxes the platysma and DAO to lift the jawline contour. Many patients benefit from both — they address different problems — but they are not interchangeable.

How long does it last?

Typically 3–6 months. Some patients return every 4 months for steady maintenance; others extend the interval as the muscle activity quietens with repeat treatment.

Will my voice change or will I have trouble swallowing?

Not at appropriate doses placed in appropriate locations. Conservative dosing along the platysma keeps the treatment well clear of the deeper swallowing muscles. We dose carefully and explain the warning signs to look out for in the rare event of unintended spread.

Can it help with neck horizontal lines?

Not directly. Horizontal neck lines (necklace lines) are skin lines, not muscle action lines, and respond better to skin treatments such as Profhilo, polynucleotides or targeted dermal filler. The Nefertiti lift addresses the vertical bands and the jawline contour.

Can I combine it with skin tightening or threads?

Yes. The Nefertiti lift complements skin-quality treatments (Profhilo, polynucleotides, microneedling) and threads or radiofrequency where appropriate. We sequence treatments thoughtfully — typically the muscle treatment first, with skin work added after settling.

Will it definitely work for me?

It works best where the platysma is genuinely active and the jawline is mildly softened. If your concern is mostly skin laxity, fat or bone-level changes, the Nefertiti lift will under-deliver. We will tell you honestly at consultation if a different intervention is the better fit.
