Treatment Summary

A focused anti-wrinkle treatment for a single cosmetic area of the upper face: forehead lines, frown lines (the '11s' between the brows) or crow's feet around the eyes. We use only MHRA-licensed botulinum toxin, dosed conservatively and placed individually to soften the lines you want softened while preserving the small movements that make your face read as alive. Ideal as a first treatment or for clients who only have one area of concern.

Also known as: Botox one area · single area Botox · forehead Botox · frown line Botox · crow's feet Botox

Key Benefits

Targeted Softening

Treats one specific concern — forehead, frown or crow's feet — without over-treating the rest of the face.

Conservative First Step

An ideal entry point if you have never had anti-wrinkle treatment before. Start small, review at two weeks.

Preserved Expression

Doses chosen to soften, not abolish, movement. Your face still reads as yours.

MHRA-Licensed Product

Only regulated botulinum toxin from established pharmaceutical manufacturers.

What single-area anti-wrinkle treatment is

Anti-wrinkle treatment for one area uses small, precisely placed doses of MHRA-licensed botulinum toxin to relax a specific group of muscles whose action is creating dynamic expression lines. At Aesthetic Clinique in West Hampstead, the most common single-area treatments are the frown (glabella complex), the forehead (frontalis), or the crow's feet (lateral orbicularis oculi). Each behaves differently, and the dose, depth and number of injection points are individualised — there is no template.

This is not the same as treating the whole upper face. It is a focused intervention for a single, dominant concern, and it is often the right starting point for someone who has never had anti-wrinkle treatment before.

How it works

Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signal that tells the small muscle to contract. Over 3–14 days the targeted muscle relaxes, the overlying skin stops creasing in the same place, and the dynamic line softens. The product is broken down by the body over weeks and months; movement returns gradually.

We dose conservatively. A first treatment is closer to the lower end of the licensed range than the upper, because it is far easier to add a small top-up at two weeks than to wait out an over-treated forehead.

Who one-area treatment suits — and who it doesn't

It suits adults whose concern is genuinely one area, and whose lines are still primarily dynamic. It is less appropriate when lines are deeply etched at rest (these may need skin treatment or filler in addition), when forehead-only treatment would cause a heavy brow on your particular anatomy, or when expectations cannot be met with one area alone. We will say so at consultation. Anti-wrinkle treatment is not used in pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain neuromuscular conditions, or where there is active skin infection at the site.

What to expect on the day, and over time

The appointment is around 30 minutes including consultation; the injecting itself takes a few minutes. There is no meaningful downtime. Softening begins at 3–5 days and reaches full effect at around 14 days, when we see you for a complimentary review. Results last 3–4 months on a first treatment. Most clients return every 3–4 months while they want the effect maintained, or stretch out the interval over time.

Combining with other treatments

Single-area anti-wrinkle treatment combines naturally with medical skincare, polynucleotides, mesotherapy, and — where appropriate — small volumes of dermal filler for any static component of a line. We treat one thing at a time and review before adding more.

What to Expect

  1. 1

    Consultation and facial mapping

We assess your face at rest and in animation, identify which single area drives your concern, and confirm dose and placement. Medical history, allergies and contraindications are reviewed.

  2. 2

    Marking and injection

Injection points are marked based on your specific muscle pattern. The skin is cleaned and a few precise injections of botulinum toxin are placed using a very fine needle. Most clients describe a quick pinch.

  3. 3

    Same-day recovery

You can return to work and most activities immediately. Avoid lying flat for four hours, intense exercise that day, and facial massage or peels for two weeks.

  4. 4

    Two-week review

Effect develops over 3–14 days. We see you at around 14 days to assess result and add a small top-up if clinically appropriate — included in your fee.

Suitability

Aesthetic care is highly individual. The points below are general guidance — final suitability for botox - 1 area is always confirmed in your consultation.

Often suitable for

  • Adults with one specific area of dynamic expression lines they want softened
  • First-time anti-wrinkle clients who prefer a measured introduction
  • Clients in their late 20s and 30s starting preventative dosing
  • Clients returning for maintenance of a single previously treated area
  • Concerns that are clearly dynamic (visible on movement) rather than static (etched in at rest)

May not be suitable if

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Certain neuromuscular conditions (e.g. myasthenia gravis, Lambert–Eaton)
  • Active skin infection or significant inflammation at the planned injection site
  • Static, deeply etched lines that need skin treatment or filler instead
  • Clients seeking a 'completely frozen' result — we do not aim for that outcome

Aftercare

Caring for your results

A few simple steps in the first 24–48 hours help your results settle as expected.

  • Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment — do not lie flat
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas and hot yoga for the rest of the day
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours to reduce bruising risk
  • Avoid facial massage, peels, microneedling or facials for two weeks
  • Gently activate the treated muscles in the first few hours (frown, raise brows)
  • Contact the clinic immediately if you develop unusual drooping, weakness or visual changes

Treatment Areas

  • Forehead
  • Frown Lines
  • Crow's Feet

Botulinum toxin type A has been used clinically for over three decades and is licensed by the MHRA for cosmetic treatment of glabellar (frown), forehead and lateral canthal (crow's feet) lines in the UK. Brands used at Aesthetic Clinique include only those holding a current UK marketing authorisation. Side-effect profile and efficacy at conservative dosing are well documented in peer-reviewed literature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which single area should I treat first?

Most clients begin with whichever area bothers them most when they look in the mirror. The frown (glabella) is the most commonly chosen first area because it drives a tired or angry resting expression. We will give an honest opinion at consultation about which single area will give you the most benefit — and whether you actually need treatment at all.

How long will one area last?

Typically 3–4 months for a first treatment, sometimes a little longer once the muscle has been treated repeatedly. Lifestyle factors (intense exercise, fast metabolism, high stress) can shorten duration. We do not re-treat sooner than every 12 weeks.

If I treat just the forehead, will my brows drop?

Treating the forehead in isolation can occasionally cause a heavy-feeling brow, because the forehead muscle is the only lifter we have. This is one reason many clinicians recommend treating frown and forehead together. At consultation we will tell you honestly if your anatomy makes single-area forehead treatment a poor idea — and whether two areas would serve you better.

Is one area enough if I have lines in several places?

Sometimes — particularly when one area is clearly dominant. More often, two or three areas balance better. You are not committed to any package; we plan what is right for your face, not what fits a price tier.

Will I see a difference in photos?

Most clients see meaningful softening in photographs taken in animation (smiling, surprised, frowning). Static photos at rest may show less change, especially on a first treatment, because dynamic lines respond first and etched-in static lines respond more slowly over repeated treatments.

What happens if I need a top-up?

If at the two-week review the area has not responded fully, a small top-up is included in your treatment fee. Beyond that, additional product would be charged separately.

Can I combine one area with skincare or other treatments?

Yes. Anti-wrinkle treatment combines well with medical skincare, chemical peels, polynucleotides and skin-quality treatments — though we ask you to leave two weeks between anti-wrinkle and any treatment that involves facial massage or pressure on the treated area.
