What Profhilo actually is

Profhilo is an injectable made from highly purified hyaluronic acid using a process called NAHYCO hybrid technology. Unlike filler, it is not chemically cross-linked into a gel; instead, it is a hybrid cooperative complex of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid that disperses through the dermis after injection. That dispersion is the entire point: Profhilo treats the biology of the skin — the fibroblasts that produce collagen and elastin — rather than placing a structural volume.

It is, in other words, a skin treatment that happens to be injected. The right comparison is not a filler. It is a course of medical-grade skin therapy.

How it works

Once injected at the standardised Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP), Profhilo slowly releases hyaluronic acid over approximately 28 days. This sustained release stimulates four key fibroblast and keratinocyte responses: production of new collagen (types I and III), production of elastin, increased natural hyaluronic acid synthesis, and improved keratinocyte activity. The visible result is firmer, better-hydrated skin with improved 'bounce' and a quieter, more luminous tone.

This is also why Profhilo takes weeks rather than minutes to show its full effect — and why it lasts longer than a hydration-only treatment.

Who is a candidate

Profhilo suits adults from their early 30s through their 60s and beyond who are noticing loss of skin quality rather than loss of volume: dryness that does not resolve with skincare, reduced firmness in the lower face, crepey skin on the neck or décolletage, or ageing skin on the hands. It is also widely used as a maintenance treatment for clients already comfortable with their facial structure.

It is not the right tool if your concern is sunken cheeks, a heavy jawline that needs definition, or dynamic lines around the eyes. Those concerns are addressed by filler, structural bio-stimulators (Sculptra, Radiesse) or anti-wrinkle injections respectively.

What happens on the day

After a short consultation to confirm suitability, we mark the five Bio Aesthetic Points per side. The injections themselves take around 15–20 minutes. You will see five small raised bumps at each injection point — these are the deposit of product and they settle within 12–24 hours. There is no real downtime. You can return to work the same day; we just ask that you avoid heavy exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours.

Results timeline and maintenance

Hydration improvements are often visible within the first two weeks. The full bio-remodelling effect — firmness, elasticity and glow — develops over 4–6 weeks after the second session. We assess results at week six post-second-session and plan maintenance from there, typically a single top-up every 6 months. Used consistently, Profhilo produces a quietly compounding improvement in skin quality over years.

Combinations we use

Profhilo combines well with microneedling (collagen induction in parallel), polynucleotides (added regenerative effect, especially around the eyes), and conservative anti-wrinkle treatment for clients who also want to soften dynamic lines. We sequence carefully — more is not always better — and a clear treatment plan is part of every consultation.
