Treatment Summary

Bespoke hyaluronic-acid lip filler placed for shape, balance and hydration rather than size. We work with the natural anatomy of your lips — refining the cupid's bow, sharpening the vermillion border, restoring lost volume or correcting subtle asymmetry — using small, conservative doses of MHRA-regulated HA filler. The treatment is fully reversible and designed for naturally refined results that age well.

Key Benefits

Shape Over Volume

Definition of the cupid's bow, vermillion border and overall lip shape — not size for the sake of size.

Restored Hydration

Hyaluronic acid binds water, leaving lips that feel softer and look subtly more hydrated.

Fully Reversible

HA filler can be partially or fully dissolved with hyaluronidase if you change your mind.

Conservative Dosing

We treat in small volumes and prefer to review and add — never overfill in a single session.

What lip filler can — and can't — do

Lip filler is a tool for shape, definition and hydration — not for transformation. Used well, hyaluronic-acid filler restores subtle volume, sharpens the lip border, refines the cupid's bow and balances minor asymmetry. Used poorly, it produces the over-filled, projecting look most clients arriving at Aesthetic Clinique want to avoid: the so-called "trout pout", filler migration above the lip border, and lips that no longer move naturally on smiling.

Lip filler does not change the underlying structure of the face, will not lift heavy nasolabial folds, and is not a substitute for orthodontic or dental work where lip projection is genuinely a dental problem.

How HA lip filler works

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule found naturally in the skin that binds water and supports volume. The filler we use is a synthetic, cross-linked HA gel — biocompatible, predictable, and broken down gradually by the body over 6–9 months in the lips. Different products in the HA family vary in firmness and lift capacity; we select the product to suit your anatomy and goal, never the other way round.

Because HA filler is fully reversible with hyaluronidase, lip filler is one of the safer aesthetic interventions available — provided it is placed correctly, in the right plane, by a clinician who understands lip anatomy.

Who lip filler suits — and who it doesn't

Lip filler suits clients with a specific, considered concern: thin upper or lower lip, indistinct vermillion border, lost volume with age, mild asymmetry, or simple lack of hydration. It is not the right treatment for someone seeking a dramatically oversized result, anyone with active cold sores, or anyone whose previous filler has migrated and not been dissolved.

If a request would distort proportion, compromise lip movement or risk migration, we will say so in consultation and recommend a more conservative plan — including, sometimes, no treatment at all.

On the day at Aesthetic Clinique

You will spend around 40 minutes with us. Numbing cream is applied for 15 minutes while we finalise the plan. Treatment itself takes 10–15 minutes. We use single-use needles or cannulas, work in small aliquots, and reassess symmetry repeatedly during the procedure. You leave with written aftercare and a two-week review booked at no additional cost.

Results, longevity and follow-up

Initial swelling exaggerates the result for 24–72 hours; the lips look largely settled at one week and fully settled at two weeks. Most clients return at 8–10 months for maintenance. Lip filler combines well with subtle perioral-line treatment for clients with vertical "smoker's lines", and with a small amount of chin filler where lower-face proportion is the underlying concern. We will always tell you when adding a different treatment is more useful than adding more lip filler.

What to Expect

  1. 1

    Consultation & Lip Mapping

We assess lip proportion, symmetry, vermillion height and animation, then plan placement and a sensible starting volume — often just 0.5–1ml for first treatments.

  2. 2

    Numbing & Antisepsis

Topical anaesthetic is applied for around 15 minutes. The skin is cleansed with medical antisepsis. Dental block anaesthesia is available for sensitive clients or fuller corrections.

  3. 3

    Precision Injection

Small aliquots of HA filler are placed using needle or cannula technique — typically along the vermillion border, body and cupid's bow — with regular review of symmetry as we work.

  4. 4

    Two-Week Review

We see you again at around two weeks to assess settling, address any minor asymmetry and decide whether further volume is in your interest. Top-ups are planned, never reactive.

Suitability

Aesthetic care is highly individual. The points below are general guidance — final suitability for lips filler is always confirmed in your consultation.

Often suitable for

  • Subtle definition of lip shape and the cupid's bow
  • Restoring volume lost through ageing or genetics
  • Correcting mild asymmetry between upper and lower lip
  • Improving lip hydration and surface texture
  • Refreshing previous filler placed conservatively elsewhere

May not be suitable if

  • Anyone seeking dramatic, oversized 'pillow lip' results
  • Active cold sores — we will postpone treatment until healed
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Significantly migrated filler from previous treatment without dissolving first
  • Bleeding disorders or recent dental work near the treatment area

Aftercare

Caring for your results

A few simple steps in the first 24–48 hours help your results settle as expected.

  • Avoid touching, pressing or massaging the lips for 24 hours
  • Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol and very hot drinks for 24 hours
  • Avoid lipstick and lip products for the first 12 hours
  • Sleep slightly elevated on the first night to reduce swelling
  • Expect swelling for 24–72 hours and small bruising for up to a week
  • Avoid dental treatment, facials and saunas for one week

Treatment Areas

  • Upper Lip
  • Lower Lip
  • Cupid's Bow
  • Vermillion Border
  • Oral Commissures

We use only MHRA-regulated, hyaluronic-acid lip fillers from established manufacturers (such as the Juvederm and Restylane families). HA filler is fully reversible with hyaluronidase, an enzyme injection. We do not use permanent or semi-permanent lip products. Every treatment is delivered by a qualified clinician under written informed consent and a documented treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will lip filler make my lips look obvious or 'done'?

Not when dosed conservatively. We start with small volumes — typically 0.5–1ml — and prioritise shape over size. Most clients are looking to look like themselves, slightly refreshed, rather than visibly augmented. If a request would compromise lip proportion or natural movement, we will say so.

How long does lip filler last?

Hyaluronic-acid lip filler typically lasts 6–9 months. The lips are highly mobile and well vascularised, so filler metabolises faster here than in less mobile areas like the cheeks or chin. Maintenance is usually every 9–12 months for those who wish to preserve a result.

How much filler do I need for my first treatment?

For most first-time clients we recommend 0.5–1ml. We would rather see you back at two weeks and add a small top-up if needed than treat in maximum volume up front. Larger doses are reserved for specific corrections discussed in consultation.

Does lip filler hurt?

Most clients describe it as uncomfortable but tolerable. Topical anaesthetic is applied first, and most modern HA lip fillers contain lidocaine. For more sensitive clients, dental block anaesthesia is available — this fully numbs the lips and is the same technique used by dentists.

Can lip filler be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid is fully reversible with hyaluronidase, an enzyme injection. We treat dissolving as carefully as placement, with a separate consultation. If you have lip filler from another clinic that has migrated or feels unnatural, dissolving is the appropriate first step before any new treatment.

What is filler migration and how do you avoid it?

Migration is when filler moves outside its intended placement — usually above the upper lip border — typically caused by repeated overfilling or superficial placement. We avoid it by dosing conservatively, placing precisely, and recommending dissolution before re-treatment if migration has already occurred elsewhere.

How soon after lip filler can I go to an event?

We advise against booking lip filler within two weeks of an important event. Visible swelling typically settles in 24–72 hours but small bruising can last 5–7 days, and the lips do not look fully settled until around two weeks. If you have a wedding or photoshoot, plan accordingly.
